  • Analog output signals to a chart recorder or other device for hard copy documentation

This Charged Plate Monitor (CPM) is an easy-to-use, self-contained instrument for testing ionizer performance.

Unique Charging Method Ensures High Accuracy

It ensures high accuracy through a unique method of charging the isolated plate. It utilizes a top-mounted, stainless steel plate monitored by an internal electrostatic field meter. The plate is charged by a solenoid-actuated contact, then isolated from the rest of the instrument during the measurement process.

This method eliminates the need for an internal high-voltage relay as well as the inaccuracies caused by poor isolation and stray capacitance. Using this method without ionization, a charge of 1,000 volts decays to 100 volts in 12 to 14 hours—the lowest rate of charge leakage on any CPM available. The monitor’s chopper-stabilized circuitry optimizes the accuracy in ionized environments.

To measure long-term average balance, the voltage plate is set to zero and allowed to float. The voltage then swings positive and negative as the electrostatic field fluctuates and ions arrive at the plate.

The CPM’s peak voltage mode records and displays peak voltage swing levels, while an LED bar display clearly indicates the swing of pulsing ionization systems. To measure discharge time, the plate can be charged to 1,000 or 5,000 volts of either polarity, set to one of several stop times, and timed with an internal timer.

The CPM makes all measurements described in Ionization Standard ANSI EOS/ESD S3.1-1991 of the ESD Association.
