Few elements of the workplace are as essential but as misunderstood
as chairs.
Despite the importance of ergonomic designs, Federal Standard
209E cleanroom specifications, and static control, few chair
manufacturers address these issues clearly and reliably
in products with guaranteed performance.
Seating that Works HardIn
Nearly Any Environment Terra's BioFit line
of chairs meets these and other workplace requirements
with rugged, industrial-strength designs and a number
of innovative features, including a wide range of nonshedding
and static-control fabrics, hermetically sealed particle
traps and truly ergonomic adjustment controls. Best of
all, these chairs are offered in economical configurations
that let you select the features you need for your particular
application, whether a Class 10 cleanroom, a research
laboratory or a stocking room.
Durabilitythe First Requirement
in All Applications
A broken chair threatens worker productivity
as well as safety, and so all of these chairs are designed
and built, from top to bottom, with the roughest conditions
in mind.
Upholstered seats are made with a furniture-grade hardwood
pan, assembled with screws and metal T-nuts for added
durability. Each features an internal bumper guard,
giving it excellent appearance and protecting the fabric
and vinyl from abrasions that occur when the chair is
bumped into desks and benches. Backs feature a protective
plastic panel that wraps around the edges of the backrest
to protect the upholstery from damage. The larger ergonomic
backrests feature additional internal bumper guards
that protect the fabric and vinyl from splitting.
Chairs with tubular bases have a heavy-duty inverted "U"
shape that relieves stress from the weld and places it in
the bend of the tubing for added strength, especially compared
to "butt weld"-type constructions. Leg tubing itself is shaped
to accept the caster directly, resulting in a much more durable
design and eliminating the need for stem inserts that often
wear out before the caster itself. Cast aluminum bases are
also extremely strong. Their all-metal design eliminates plastic
bases found in inferior chairs. All bases feature five legs
on a standard basis.
Pneumatic cylinders are taper-fitted at the top and bottom
to eliminate bolts, screws, rivets or other metal fasteners
that can come loose and pose a safety threat. This design
also makes it easy to assemble and disassemble chairs and,
in many cases, even to change the seat height in the field
simply by changing an adapter tube. The "Soft Touch" seat
height adjustment control takes the aggravation out of seat
controlno standing or stooping is necessary.
These features enable us to extend a 15-year warrantyamong
the best in the industry!on all components except
upholstery and casters, which are covered for five
years.
Ergonomics: It's More Than a Good
Idea
Growing concern over worker safety and productivity has forced
manufacturers to consider the many industrial implications
of "ergonomics": the study of how laws of nature influence
human performance in day-to-day work environments.
Better understanding of such repetitive stress disorders
as carpal tunnel syndrome has led to more effective applications
of ergonomics in the design of products like chairs that can
significantly reduce the incidence of worker fatigue and injury.
Increasingly stiff workers' compensation premiums and OSHA
fines make this investment in worker health an economic imperative!
These BioFit chairs are backed by years of research
into ergonomic seating. Their field-proven designs maximize
worker comfort in several ways. First, each chair features a
"Soft Touch" pneumatic control that allows fast, easy height
adjustment without stooping or twisting motions that can lead
to injury. This top-quality mechanism carries a lifetime warranty.
Second, this line of seating offers modular features
that allow you to select seating that's exactly
right for your applications. All chairs incorporate
a full 3" of cushioning in both the seat and backrest,
and make use of a protective plastic panel and body-conforming
hinge assembly for enhanced comfort and durability.
Designated "ergonomic" chairs use larger seats and
backrests for additional support.

Fabrics For Every Requirement
Chairs are available in the colors and fabrics listed
above (for further information, refer to performance test data
listed in descriptions of individual chairs on the following
pages). Each material offers specific advantages.
Grade 2 Vinyl is the standard
material for Class 100 chairs.
Grade 4 Breathable Nylon looks,
feels and upholsters like leather, but is 100% nylon made
from fibers laid in a 3-dimensional matrix. This material
breathes through billions of micro-pores that function as
particle traps. It is suitable for Class 10 applications.Conductive
Black Vinyl is our most conductive material (not recommended
for cleanroom use).
Microcon Static-Dissipative Blue/Black
Vinyl is a heavy-duty vinyl for use in ESD cleanroom
applications.
Static-Dissipative Viscose/Wool,
a high-quality ESD wool blend, is available in two colors
and combines a high aesthetic appeal with static protection.
